We have been involved with and advised on a number of practice mergers. Commonly, where two or more practices can work together to achieve benefits, such as economies of scale, complementary enhancement of skills and resources, security in increase business size and so on. There are a number of pitfalls to avoid and issues to address early in the process. Our early involvement is always preferred to avoid having to unscramble situations.
We also deal with de-mergers of practices for a variety of reasons. Commonly, we consider splitting out business sections for sale, to facilitate succession planning or to achieve a number of different aims.
The tax considerations of merging or de-merging are wide-ranging across all taxes and we see experience as being invaluable in these situations.
